50 KLD SUSBIO ECOTREAT — Hotel & Event Venue Case Study, Khopoli, Maharashtra

Last Updated 21 Jul 2026

Mastiff Grand The Sia Palace Suites & Banquets sits near Imagica Theme Park in Khopoli, Maharashtra, on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway corridor — a well-known destination for weddings and corporate events in the region. The property runs 88 guest rooms alongside four banquet venues, the largest seating 500 guests (up to 700 with floating capacity), plus a swimming pool, spa, and restaurant.

The Challenge

Hospitality properties built around event hosting face a sizing problem that pure residential or office buildings don’t: wastewater load isn’t steady. A typical day at Sia Palace generates sewage from 88 rooms of occupancy. A wedding weekend can add 700 guests using restrooms, catering facilities, and banquet spaces simultaneously. An STP sized only for average daily load risks non-compliance discharge during peak events; one sized only for peak load runs wastefully oversized and inefficient the rest of the year.

As a new-build property, Sia Palace needed a system engineered for this swing from day one — not a retrofit patched onto an undersized system after the fact.

The Solution: SUSBIO ECOTREAT, 50 KLD

SUSBIO installed a 50 KLD ECOTREAT unit, built on our Anaerobic + MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) dual-stage biological treatment process, housed in a single prefabricated FRP shell.

Why MBBR fits a variable-load hospitality site specifically:

  • Biofilm resilience under shock loading — MBBR’s plastic media carriers maintain a stable microbial population even when influent volume spikes suddenly, unlike suspended-growth systems (like conventional Activated Sludge) that can be knocked off balance by a sudden event-day surge
  • Compact footprint — a critical factor for hospitality builds where land is prioritized for guest-facing amenities (the pool, gardens, banquet lawns) rather than utility infrastructure
  • Low sludge generation — reduces the maintenance burden on a property whose operations team is focused on guest service, not plant operation

Every SUSBIO ECOTREAT unit at this capacity is engineered to consistently deliver BOD below 10 mg/L, exceeding CPCB Class A discharge norms, while running on roughly 70% less electricity than a conventional civil STP of equivalent capacity.

Site Readiness

Because this was new construction, civil groundwork and site preparation took longer than SUSBIO’s standard 3-5 day installation window for an already-prepared plinth — a common and expected timeline difference for greenfield hospitality builds where STP civil work runs alongside broader construction, rather than being a standalone retrofit project.

The Result

The plant has been operational since 2026 and consistently meets CPCB discharge norms. Rather than discharging treated water, Sia Palace reuses it on-site for landscaping and gardening — reducing the property’s freshwater draw for these applications and supporting the extensive grounds that are central to the venue’s appeal for outdoor weddings and events.
