Packaged Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer for Oman | SUSBIO ECOTREAT

Oman is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world — just 416 m³ of water per person per year. When you add rapid urbanisation, ambitious tourism development, and MECA’s increasingly strict discharge regulations, getting wastewater treatment right isn’t optional. It’s critical infrastructure.

At SUSBIO, we’ve been building packaged sewage treatment plants since 2013. What started in India — 500+ installations across 24 states — has expanded to 8 countries including Oman. Our ECOTREAT system is used by hotels in Muscat, resorts along the Musandam coast, industrial facilities in Sohar, and residential developments in Salalah. This page tells you exactly what we supply, how it works, what it costs to operate, and why it’s compliant with Oman’s MECA standards.

Why Oman's Wastewater Challenge Is Unique

Most of Oman still relies on septic tanks and holding tanks for sewage collection — particularly outside Muscat and Salalah, where Haya Water and Oman Wastewater Services operate centralized networks. This means that resorts in Dhofar, villas in Al Batinah, industrial facilities in Sohar Free Zone, and hospitals across the interior governorates need on-site treatment solutions.

Oman’s regulatory environment is governed by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA), under Royal Decree 90/2007. MECA’s Ministerial Decision MD 145/93 sets the wastewater discharge quality limits. From January 2014, regulations explicitly prohibit discharge of untreated wastewater into wadis, groundwater recharge areas, or marine environments.

MECA Wastewater Discharge Limits (MD 145/93) — Key Parameters

Parameter Maximum Permitted Limit
BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand)
≤ 20 mg/L (for land discharge)
COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand)
≤ 200 mg/L
Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
≤ 30 mg/L
pH
6.0 – 9.0
Oil & Grease
≤ 10 mg/L
Fecal Coliform
≤ 400 MPN/100 mL (for reuse in irrigation)

SUSBIO ECOTREAT consistently achieves BOD below 10 mg/L — well within MECA limits — because the Anaerobic + MBBR dual-stage process delivers Class A effluent quality. For clients who want treated water reuse for irrigation or flushing, this effluent quality is safe and compliant.

What We Supply to Oman

SUSBIO ECOTREAT — Packaged STP (Our Flagship for Oman)

SUSBIO ECOTREAT is a prefabricated, self-contained sewage treatment plant built from 100% fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP). It arrives at your site ready to connect — no civil construction, no curing time, no months of waiting.

The dual-treatment process inside a single unit works like this: raw sewage first enters the anaerobic chamber, where bacteria break down heavy organic load without electricity. The partially treated water then moves into the aerobic MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) chamber, where microorganisms on plastic carriers finish the job. The result is effluent quality that consistently meets and exceeds MECA standards.

Who Uses SUSBIO in Oman

We’ve supplied packaged STPs across a wide range of applications in the Gulf region. Here’s who typically comes to us:

Hotels & Resorts

Oman’s tourism sector — from boutique coastal resorts in Musandam to eco-lodges in the Hajar Mountains — often sits far outside municipal sewage coverage. ECOTREAT is ideal here: it’s silent, odorless, fits underground so it doesn’t affect the guest experience, and the treated water can be reused for landscape irrigation. Installation in 3–5 days means construction programs don’t slip.

Residential Villas & Compounds

New villa developments and gated communities across Al Batinah, North Al Sharqiyah, and Al Dhahirah governorates frequently need individual or shared on-site treatment. ECOTREAT’s capsule range (1–20 KLD) covers 5 to 100 residents and requires no dedicated operator.

Hospitals & Healthcare Facilities

Healthcare effluent requires careful treatment before discharge. ECOTREAT handles the BOD and pathogen load from healthcare facilities effectively, and the automated monitoring system keeps records that compliance officers need for MECA reporting.

Industrial & Commercial Facilities

Food processing, dairy, light manufacturing, and logistics facilities in Sohar Industrial Port (SIPA) and Rusayl Industrial Estate increasingly need on-site treatment to comply with Oman’s 2014 industrial discharge regulations. SUSBIO’s ETP solutions handle industry-specific effluent streams alongside the ECOTREAT STP.

Schools, Campuses & Institutions

Educational institutions outside Muscat’s sewer network — international schools, university campuses, military academies — are ideal ECOTREAT users. Low maintenance, automated operation, and long lifecycle make the economics straightforward.

How SUSBIO ECOTREAT Works

SUSBIO ECOTREAT

Here’s what happens inside an SUSBIO ECOTREAT unit, step by step:

  • Stage 1 — Oil & Grease Separation: Raw sewage enters. A pre-treatment chamber separates floating fats, oils, and grease before they can clog downstream components.
  • Stage 2 — Primary Sedimentation: Heavy solids settle to the base. This reduces the load on biological stages and captures coarse suspended matter.
  • Stage 3 — Anaerobic Contact (No Electricity): Bacteria in a low-oxygen environment break down the bulk of the organic load. This stage does the heavy lifting without consuming power.
  • Stage 4 — Aerobic MBBR Treatment: Wastewater moves into the aerated chamber, where thousands of small plastic carriers (media) carry biofilm communities that consume remaining organics. This is where BOD drops below 10 mg/L.
  • Stage 5 — Final Clarification: Solids settle out. Treated water clarifies before leaving the system.
  • Stage 6 — Disinfection: UV or chlorination (based on client requirement) kills residual pathogens. Effluent is now safe for discharge to a wadi, soak pit, or reuse for irrigation.

The entire process runs automatically. No operator needs to be on-site. The IoT monitoring system sends alerts and performance data to a remote dashboard — accessible from anywhere in Oman or India.

Why Oman Buyers Choose SUSBIO

13 Years of Manufacturing Experience

SUSBIO was founded in 2013 by Akshat Tyagi and Raghavendra Suryavanshi at BITS Pilani — one of India’s top engineering institutions. Every unit is manufactured at our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in Vasuli MIDC, Chakan, Pune. When you order an ECOTREAT, it’s designed, built, tested, and dispatched by engineers who have been doing this for over a decade.

500+ Installations — Including Gulf Deployments

We have over 500 active ECOTREAT installations across 24 Indian states and 8 countries. Our Gulf and MENA deployments include sites in Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Oman. This isn’t a company trying out export for the first time. We understand GCC logistics, customs, and the practical differences between installing in Pune and installing in Muscat.

70% Less Electricity Than Conventional STPs

In Oman, where diesel generator costs are significant for off-grid sites, energy efficiency isn’t a nice-to-have. ECOTREAT’s Anaerobic + MBBR process uses 70% less electricity than conventional activated sludge or SBR systems of the same capacity. Over a 10-year period, this typically saves more than the capital cost of the plant itself.

No Operator Required

Hiring and retaining a qualified STP operator in Oman is expensive — and finding one for a remote resort or distant industrial site can be almost impossible. ECOTREAT runs autonomously. Sensors monitor pH, DO, and flow. The system self-adjusts. Alerts are sent to a phone app if anything needs attention. Annual service visits from our Gulf-based team cover the rest.

FRP — Built for Gulf Conditions

Oman’s combination of high humidity on the coast and extreme heat inland punishes steel and concrete structures. FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) doesn’t corrode, doesn’t crack in thermal cycles, and doesn’t require painting or anti-corrosion treatment. The 50-year lifecycle claim is based on real material science, not marketing.

Local Support Through Gulf Partners

SUSBIO works through authorized partners in Oman for on-ground support, commissioning, and annual maintenance contracts (AMC). You’re not relying on calls to India for every service issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SUSBIO ECOTREAT compliant with Oman’s MECA wastewater standards?

Yes. ECOTREAT consistently produces effluent with BOD below 10 mg/L — well below MECA’s MD 145/93 discharge limit of 20 mg/L for land discharge. Our plants are also designed to meet the stricter quality thresholds required for treated water reuse in irrigation.

How long does it take to get a plant from India to Oman?

Manufacturing lead time is typically 6–10 weeks depending on the KLD capacity. Shipping from Pune to Muscat or Salalah takes approximately 12–18 days by sea. We manage all export documentation and coordinate with your freight forwarder or our Gulf logistics partners.

Can the treated water be reused for irrigation?

Yes, provided the final effluent meets MECA’s reuse quality parameters — which ECOTREAT is designed to achieve. Treated water is commonly reused for landscape irrigation at resorts and residential developments in Oman.

What capacity do I need for my hotel or resort?

A rule of thumb for Oman’s hospitality sector is 200 litres per room per day (including staff, laundry, and kitchen). A 50-room resort would typically need a 10–15 KLD plant. Contact us for a site-specific calculation — capacity is free and takes less than 24 hours.

Does the plant need a dedicated operator?

No. ECOTREAT is fully automated with IoT monitoring. You will receive alerts on your phone or dashboard if any parameter goes outside normal range. Annual service visits from our Gulf partner handle routine maintenance.

What happens to the sludge?

ECOTREAT generates significantly less sludge than conventional STPs due to the anaerobic pre-treatment stage. The small amount of sludge produced is collected periodically (typically every 3–6 months depending on load) and disposed of through licensed contractors per MECA guidelines.

Can the plant be installed underground?

Yes. ECOTREAT is available in both above-ground and below-ground configurations. Underground installation is popular for resorts and residential developments where aesthetics matter — the surface area above the tank can be landscaped or paved.

What is the warranty and lifespan?

The FRP vessel carries a 10-year structural warranty. The expected lifespan of the unit is 50 years with normal maintenance. Mechanical components (blowers, pumps) carry standard manufacturer warranties of 1–2 years.

Conclusion

Oman’s water challenges aren’t going to get simpler. MECA enforcement is tightening. Tourism development is accelerating. Industrial zones are growing. If you’re planning a project that needs wastewater treatment — whether it’s a 5-room guesthouse in the Hajar Mountains or a 300-bed hospital in Muscat — the earlier you design the STP into your project, the smoother everything else goes.

SUSBIO has been doing this for 13 years. We’ll tell you what size you need, what it will cost to operate, whether MECA requires tertiary treatment for your specific discharge point, and how long it takes to ship from Pune to your site.
